In a stunning betrayal of public safety, Denver’s progressive city council has unanimously dismantled a highly effective auto theft tracking system — not because it failed, but because it worked too well. The Flock camera network, responsible for recovering 170 stolen vehicles and aiding 300 arrests, was abruptly discarded out of fear that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) might use its data to deport illegal aliens. This brazen decision, framed as “compassion,” reveals a disturbing priority: Democratic leadership would rather enable criminals and sabotage law enforcement than uphold justice for American citizens.
Key points:
The Flock license plate recognition system, deployed at 70 major Denver intersections, scanned over 2 million vehicles monthly, swiftly identifying stolen cars and aiding felony investigations. Yet for Denver’s left-wing leadership, even its undeniable success was a liability. Councilman Kevin Flynn openly admitted their calculus: “We know it can help solve crime, but since Jan. 20 [2024], those concerns are greatly heightened.” The date marks Trump’s renewed focus on immigration enforcement—an existential threat to Democrats’ pro-amnesty agenda.
Sarah Parady, another council member, framed ICE’s lawful duty as “ill intent,” declaring, “This kind of surveillance technology is a gift if you have that kind of ill intent, and the federal government has that ill intent right now.” The irony is unmistakable: left-wing officials labeling law enforcement as malicious while shielding those who violate U.S. sovereignty.
Mayor Mike Johnston justified scrapping the program by citing “new community concerns.” This is code for activists to ramp up their pressure to obstruct ICE. Meanwhile, Denver Police Sgt. Todd Erickson confirmed the system was “a great tool” for victims, and prosecutor Matthew Kirsch called it “invaluable” for building cases. Despite this, the council voted unanimously to prioritize illegal aliens over public safety.
This surrender to lawlessness mirrors broader Democrat strategies: From New York to San Francisco, “sanctuary” policies handcuff ICE while unleashing waves of unchecked migration. The Denver decision underscores a radical agenda — where protecting unauthorized immigrants takes precedence over stopping violent crime.
Denver’s defiance isn’t isolated. Last week, an executive order empowered the DOJ to prosecute officials obstructing ICE — prompting panic among left-wing leaders. Parady’s outrage at being held accountable reveals a deeper truth: progressive zealots see immigration laws as optional, even as border towns drown in fentanyl, human trafficking, and gang violence.
Worse, dismantling tools like Flock invites catastrophe. Auto thefts surged 160% in Denver in 2023; now, criminals know the city will deliberately blind itself to stop them. Meanwhile, taxpayers foot the bill for policies that incentivize illegal entry—while Democrats fecklessly blame Republicans for the chaos they engineered.
Denver’s cowardly repeal proves Democrats care more about getting votes from illegal aliens, even if that means shield them when they commit crimes and making victims out of law abiding citizens. With crime spiraling and cities buckling under migrant crises, leaders who sabotage ICE — and police — betray the very people they swore to serve. Until Americans demand accountability, expect more Flock-style surrenders: justice discarded, criminals rewarded, and citizens left to fend for themselves.
